But it’s cool for Eddie Murphy and Eddie Griffith to put on whiteface because it’s funny and makes millions of people laugh? Or is that stereotyping?

Use some common sense once in a while. All I ever needed to know about racism was learned from Dr. Seuss’ The Sneetches.

  2. FurbyParade226 Says:

Psh who cares…just release the edited on TV and the good stuff on DVD..it’s that easy.

  3. MeYoUsKiDa Says:

It amazes me that people are on here talking about how they don’t get where the “racism” comes from. If only some of you actually payed attention to History in Feb. while you were in school, you would know that this was done to mimic and mock blacks. So many of you are so concerned with blacks trying to call everything racist that you turn your eyes to blatant racism. I’m not mad at the clip. It was 1945, what do I expect. You all just need to acknowledge that this kind of ish did happen.

  4. VinylCountryMusic Says:

I really don’t see what is rascist about him geting dipped in ink lol, it’s just funny, I think for some reason, they just want to call everything a rascist joke, so they can butcher up these great cartoons, so that the DVDs will suck lol

  5. VinylCountryMusic Says:

I wish they would just change the color, but they usually just cut the whole scene :(

  6. MustangGangsta92 Says:

Speak for yourself. I find this stuff quite humorous

  7. johnlewisbrooks Says:

Racist or not this cartoon is GREAT! Anyone who wants to do animation could learn a lesson from this!

This cartoon won an award in 1945 for ‘best cartoon of the year”.

Wonder why? The animation is as flawless as possible for the date, the music is astounding even today, and the plotline was cute!

  8. anyonebutobama08 Says:

funny how this is considered offensive, but in any city ,on the radio, you can find rap music that glorifies violent crime, murder and racial hatred.

  9. vigo894 Says:

Did anyone get offened when Eddie Murphy put on makeup and pretented to be a white man
in that Saturday Night Live film? Or when
that North Korean made himself look like a
Western man in that James Bond movie?

  10. AngleFan1 Says:

The guy above you just said that he thought they were hilarious, so it’s still funny to some people now a days. Do you think just because something isn’t funny it should never be released? For instance, I don’t like Family Guy, but I wouldn’t say that it shouldn’t be out there just because I don’t think it’s funny.

  11. remyworldpeace Says:

I used to watch this! Not once did I notice!

Oh well – if they’d rather edit them and change the colour (from black to red or purple) that’s OK if it makes people happy.

  12. Rmanders1301 Says:

aah the infamous blackface gags! i love tom and jerry so much and its such a shame that these aspects of the cartoons have been edited/censored/cut from the originals. i wish warner brothers would just release a dvd collection of the originals as they were the day they were released

  13. DeerMime Says:

That was a reply to an earlier comment btw.

  14. DeerMime Says:

The episode title was “The Truce Hurts”.

  15. byakushisgrrl Says:

It’s not like kids now are even going to understand the origins of this, so why bother removing it?

  16. maybrook1 Says:

    i think its hilarious

  17. Domebuddy Says:

what i meant is “Why do people give a shit that racist scenes are removed” I totally support the removal of these scenes, We aren’t more offended today, its just that these jokes aren’t funny now a days, and are simply offensive

  18. Yoshithedino123 Says:

because people are more offended nowadays

  19. Domebuddy Says:

The FCC, thats who, also im sure some strict family or religious group would protest or something. I personally wouldent want my kids (i dont have them, but if) to see this, one of my worst fears in becoming a parent is that my child becomes a racist

  20. flicklefish Says:

Who gets to decide what is hurtful and what isnt funny for everyone?

  21. Domebuddy Says:

Only the racist scenes are censored, They keep the cigars, guns, explosives. I dont see why people are giving a shit about a few racist scenes

  22. Domebuddy Says:

oh yes, support the people that STARTED blackface, thats hilarious btw. Also, if it was real in the 1940s, doesnt mean its real now, the choice to censor these things are completely logical. Try not to take offense, but im positive around 5/6 of the people that support these things are white, me being myself white im a bit offended by the way white people support racist jokes. These jokes aren’t even funny! Oooh look, a reference to the origin of black face, Thats great! -.-

  23. Domebuddy Says:

the reference to black people? this isnt even funny, i dont understand the point in keeping in there if it has a small chance of offending someone, it personally doesnt bother me, but my opinion doesnt matter if someone else gets hurt from this. Point is, if its not funny, whats the point.

  24. WorldsHeaviestMan Says:

I saw this episode a few days ago on boomerang. The cut was so sloppy I had no doubt a blackface scene had been removed. Anyone so thin-skinned as to be offended by this needs to get slapped around for a while.

  25. flicklefish Says:

Cartoon Network censors blackface all the time. However, it was a gag used often in cartoons of the era. I don’t necessarily have a problem with them censoring for children who may not appreciate the minstrel reference… but it would be nice to have it as an adult swim choice. Perhaps with commentary explaning the references. Package it up as “Uncut Classics” or something, for those of us who truly love these cartoons and are grown adults, capable of understanding the references.
